I updated my RAM...Things are worse.

I did exactly what OWC told me to do and I even bought their RAM too...things started off shaky a couple weeks ago when it would freeze and restart...but for the last 2 months things have been fine. Now I'm doing a lot of work on iMovie and it has already frozen twice and restarted. It's showing 5GB of free RAM?! I originally had 4GB of RAM and I got another 4GB of RAM and put them in the two open slots that weren't used.

Any ideas on what I can/should do?

Your performance problems may have nothing to do with RAM. Follow every step of the following instructions precisely. Do not skip any steps.
  1. Launch Activity Monitor
  2. Change "My Processes" at the top to "All Processes"
  3. Click on the "% CPU" column heading once or twice, so the arrow points downward (highest values on top).
    (If that column isn't visible, right-click on the column headings and check it, NOT "CPU Time")
  4. Click on the System Memory tab at the bottom.
  5. Take a screen shot of the entire Activity Monitor window, then scroll down to see the rest of the list, take another screen shot
  6. Post your screenshots.

Ok I did it. What I blocked out was my full name which is the computer name. Hopefully you can tell what's up...

There's nothing there that would indicate high demands on system performance. You have plenty of available RAM, no page outs and no high demands on CPU. Were these screen shots taken at a time when you were experiencing problems? If not, try posting again when you are.
 
I don't know if they currently make them anymore, but AppleCare once came with the Hardware Test disc. I can't even recall the name of the actual software, but I think it Tech Tools or something along those lines. I believe it was farmed out to a third party and not an Apple product. It included extensive RAM tests, which is what I would use to test for problems when I would upgrade.

Did a little digging, you can still get it, but since it isn't bundled with Apple Care, it probably isn't cost effective to buy it. I would contact OWC and have them exchange the RAM.
