Any help? In case it's only me that can't see it, its a red sign that says "CAUTION HIGH CLIFFS AHEAD"

Deferred gratification can be so sweet and rewarding. Forget that BS ... even I do not believe a word of it.

Is there a way we can make something jump out at newbies that says 500 POSTS, they don't seem to understand the rules yet.

Is there a way to restrict "newbies" from starting threads about Avatars? Maybe there is a filter or something that can tell if a user is a newbie, then if any specific words are being put into the title of the new thread they are trying to make: such as "avatar" "upload", etc.

Of course, then they would start a thread asking why they can't start a thread about getting an avatar, so I guess my idea is not very good :).

We have been through this so many times in the past and nothing seems to be working. Can we make it a mandatory read when a person signs up about the rules and in big bold letters the rules about uploading avatars. Until they read the FAQ and click yes I understand the rules they are not allowed to register.

Yeahbut. How many people actually READ the FAQ? Probably about as many as those who read an EULA...
Thats why you force it in front of them so they cant ignore it.

Hey, I think it's good for newbs to be put in their place every few months. Gives us old-timers a chance to swagger around and show who's boss. Even better if we all act as if they should of course know all the rules as soon as they register.

What is the biggest question we get, its how do I get an avatar or why cant I create an avatar. If it was spelled out in big red letters maybe then they would get the idea.

how does that help?

most people scroll down click accept and continue without reading...

Perhaps, a quiz about the rules/FAQ every time they try to post anything until they complete it successfully.

We made a change that might help. The User Control Panel "Edit Avatar" page now has a reminder about the avatar requirement.

Perfect, that might just do the trick. We shall see tho if another "why can't I post an avatar" thread comes up.:)

Maybe one approach would be to give all newbies a default N00B avatar they can't change that is the same for all newbies/members/regulars. This would actually make it easier to tell those who don't want a 'tar from simple newbies. They're all alike, right?:p

That would almost work-- except we'd get an influx of "Why can't I change my avatar?!"

How about if we use a picture of the soup nazi from Seinfeld. "No 'tar for you!".
