so does that explain it? and yes, your roomate is very lucky indeed.... specs of the 17" MBP?

as far as i know, eBay has their ebuyer protection, which stops people from getting scammed, so that's why there aren't any scams so far on eBay

So you're saying that nobody has ever been scammed on ebay?

Hi all.
I want more real estate. No, my house is fine - I'm talking about my screen. I can't multitask on my 13" well. I think it's flawed. I want the 17 inch macbook pro but I can't even come CLOSE to mustering up the cash it takes to acquire one. I also crave the speed. The cores. It's an amazing machine - one I'd love to have some day.

Tried Mission Control (Lion) or Spaces (Snow Leopard) to get more real estate?

my roommate got a 2 months old 2011 17 inches MBP off eBay for $255.50 last night!! :D

maybe it was a picture of a MBP or the box and manual only, you have to read those descriptions pretty good on ebay, lots of scammers out there

even if the seller was a goof and had no minimum bid others would of seen this listing and out bid $255.50

OS X offers many solutions to make the best off a small(er) screen. For one, the already mentioned mission control. Give fullscreen mode a try too. Just swipe between desktops, works like a charm

Buy the 17inch. I just upgraded from the late 13inch 2011 to the late 17inch 2011 macbook pro. I love the extra screen size. I am really happy with the change.

So you're saying that nobody has ever been scammed on ebay?

not any that i know of, but there are always a few tricks round to scamming while bypassing the eBuyer protection. By the sellers putting info they dont want you to know in areas they expect you to not check. you never know, the $255 17" macbook pro that someone is trying to sell on eBay might be just selling the box and the enclosed info (even if $255 for just that is a rip off!)

the only way to check for scammers on eBay is by looking at the gallery of the product they are trying to sell. For example if they have no picture, they can't be trusted because there is no proof that they actually have the product they are trying to sell. Not just that, but if someone is putting the name of the product they are trying to sell as, for example, 'macbook pro 17" 2011', and they only put picture of the box, would you trust the seller?

Another tip would be to find as much info as possible on what the seller is trying to say as well. That way you know what they are actually trying to sell

10 years ago when I was 13, I paid $493 for an IBM thinkpad with a P2 CPU. The lady kept telling me that her father was in the hospital and did so for weeks. After 45 days, all hope was lost and I was unable to get my laptop or money. This was before eBay's buyer protection.

You can still easily get scammed on ebay if you don't watch yourself, such as selling a laptop, and the person replacing parts on the inside and claiming it doesn't work.

Impossible.

Geesh, what next, eh? :D

These things don't grow on trees. You WILL NOT win the lottery.

No, Jessica Alba will NOT **** you. No, there isn't a Santa (sorry).

But there ARE Trolls ;)

That's not true. You can find plenty of images that a seller could use to scam someone. Just do a google search.

17" is gigantic if you are on the train and in school. Try putting that on your desk in a classroom or open it on the train. I couldn't fit mine in the airport security bins.
Eh? It fits fine in airport trays - mine has done about 50 flights with me. It's also fine on small desks. About the only place I've ever struggled is in economy seating on a plane.

Remember that the MBP17 is one of the smallest 17-inch laptops on the market, with external dimensions about the size of a typical Windows 15-inch laptop.

I recommend the AG HD version. It's lighter and more balanced that the glass version, as the large glass area makes the back considerably heavier than the front.

Frankly, I wouldn't use anything else for most portable work, but i do also have an 11" Air that I use quite a bit also.

The speakers are pretty loud on these :D

Meh. You seem to know eBay more than me. Al I wanted to tell you about was the ebuyer protection. That's all.

let us know how that works out for him

It worked!!! He's happy!!!

Intel i7 2.4GHz 4GB memory glossy screen 750GB hard drive

Everytime I talk to someone (this is just a generalization) that has a 17", they always tell me that it was great at first, but then it started to get heavy/big on them.

15" is good.

17" is a bit big. However, who knows, if you don't travel a lot, 17" might be nice for you.
