We're not always on the road, often times the MacBook just sits there on your desk at home. In those instances why wouldn't you just connect your external keyboard and mouse and use those instead? I don't think that's unreasonable at all. And doing this happens to reduce physical wear on the machine itself.

Of course carrying around those things while traveling/when you really need to be portable is a different story.

Once I spilled Coke on my brand new macbook pro.
Had to throw it away.

Since then, I use a keyboard protector.
I DO NOT recommend those cheap on ebay, because they are so thick that it feels you're typing on a typewriter!

I recommend the moshi keyboard protector because its really thin.

To protect from scratches I use a hard case that I bought on ebay for 8 dollars.
My macbook seems a little bit bulky, but come on... The country where I live, the 1,799 dollars macbook pro costs 4,000 dollars, so I'd rather make it ugly than have to pay for another.

If your going to do that you might as well get another computer altogether and let the Macbook sit in the box. Ridiculous. Do you guys buy these computers to use them or look at them?

I think that is a little unfair. I have external keyboards and mouse/trackpad at my desks at work and home, and although it's more for ergonomic reasons, using my macbook keyboard less is a bonus. I'd rather shell out for a new keyboard than try and get apple to replace the one in my macbook.

Also I'd like to see someone using an iMac or Mini at home and work, bringing it back and forth every day, and taking it between different rooms in the house.

Having said that I've never had any problems with any keyboards, and I wouldn't go far out of my way to avoid using my laptop as a laptop, but there's no sense in wearing something out for the sake of it.

Beat me to it, and did it in a much more concise way too...
