I have updates my iphone 12 to ios 26.1 and now I can’t text anyone without an apple phone if my phone is connected to any wifi.

This has happened to me before once with another ios update.

It is not my phone…it is not my carrier. It is APPLE.

If it IS my phone… that means no apple users with an “old” phone can text ANYONE in the world who don’t have apple phone. Nice. Yay.

I am about to get a 16… but whatever. I can’t afford an Apple whatever number is newest because I am poor.

The OTHER time this happened, I tried to fix it…but couldn’t. I just had to turn my wifi on anx off again to text anyone who may not have an iphone until a magical day when suddenly it “fixed itself” …with an ios update.

I have been “told” by people who are in the know it is because Messages uses “old bad code” and there is “nothing I can do.”

Great. Fabulous.

If anyone has read up to this point…I would love your opinion.

If you really want to be funny, tell me to turn it off and turn it back on again.

oh…And all of those typos are because the touch whatchahoozit capabilities of my screen are terrible… and my eyesight…not my grammar

…so apologies !!!

New phone soon!

It really sounds like a carrier issue.

Have you tried Settings / General / Transfer or Reset Phone / Reset (at the bottom) / Reset Network Settings? Though before doing that, beware that this will erase all of your stored WiFi passphrase, so you'll need to log in to WiFi again everywhere - so I'd try contacting your carrier for support first.

Honestly does sound like a carrier issue... not seeing this with my mom's iPhone 12 on T-Mobile nor my nephew's 12 Pro (my old phone) on Verizon. Wife and I both have 15 Pros and no issues there on T-Mobile either. I suppose it's possible wifi calling could be an issue, turning it off or on might help.

What carrier are you using?

I would love if this a carrier issue! I use Mint.

I will consult with them.

Unfortunately the time this happened before it happened while I had Verizon - so it has happened with two separate carriers.

I will still check with Mint though!
