My MBP is about a year old, same with the battery. It holds a 83% maximum charge now with 194 battery load-cycles, according to coconutbattery. What are loadcycles anyways? Do I want more or less? Also, how can I generally prolong my battery's life?

A load cycle is when a battery is completely discharged and then recharged, or the equivalent thereof. Depleting a battery to 50%, recharging it to 100%, depleting it again to 50% and then recharging it again to 100% is technically one load cycle. You want these to be minimal since a battery is rated to last a certain amount of load cycles.

A good way of looking after your battery is to follow some of Apple's advice. :)
