As an update to a thread I statted several days ago...

After 10 years of iPhone ownership, I sold my iPhone 7 Plus and went to the Note 8. After a week of use, I can confidently conclude that for me, the Note 8 is an amazing phone that absolutely blows the iPhone out of the water in functionlaity and customization. I even traded my Series 2 watch in for a Gear 3 and find it to be a much watch better much for my purposes. Apple seems to be mostly about curves and design aesthetics. The rigidity of iOS is counter-productive.

Maybe the Note 8 is the first truly amazing phone form Samsung, I don’t know. But I have definitely found an absolute winner in the Note 8 and have no regrets leaving the iPhone behind. At work, few people were happy with Apple’s September iPhone event. They knew me as a major Apple fan and thought I would be the last to leave Apple. There may very well be more than average defectors this upgrade cycle. Our family has three more iPhones to converts, which we will do in October.

So you fell victim of what is essentially marketing's job?

Not sure this is a thread worthy topic...

Thread is better suited to the alternatives section.

Good luck and enjoy your phone.

Be aware of the Android update cycle and the lousy protection. Also when you have an issue with your phone you’ll have to wait maybe 2-3 months. No replacements offered immediately. Plus no phone support. That’s what you pay for with Apple. To make a long story short you fell for the louse Samsung marketing.....

Doesn't really competes with the Note 8. If you want a phone with a stylus the Note 8 is the only device for you. More like competes with the upcoming S9 IMHO. Back to OP though. What is the point of this thread? I am writing this on my Note 8 as well but the x is arguably the best smartphone out there spec to spec with the exception of brightness of screen with only around 600 nits compared to the S8 1,000 and Note 8 1,200 and RAM (2?)

Lousy Samsung marketing? The fanboyism on both sides is strong in this thread lol.

I have a Macbook Pro 15 2017 and an iPad Pro 10.5 and it sucks to lose that but I find the note 8 screen to be fantastic and better than iPhone screens. As far as the x screen I assume the same goes based off high bright the note can get compared to the x. Even Then the fact I can't get HD on vudu is also a deciding factor for me. For me multimedia is a big factor and the note 8 is better for me. Shame Apple doesn't allow HD streams for whatever reason on vudu if you want to download the movie.

I still have a 10.5 pad and MBP. I switched to Google Photos and DropBox, so my Note 8 syncs semalessly with my Apple devices. The big lie is that you have to keep everything in the Apple ecosystem. Again, I credit that misconception to Apple’s marketing machine.

Obviously you have not studied marketing or influence. We are all duped, every day, by marketing pros. Simply acknowledging my experience with Apple’s amazing marketing machine. It’s effective for sure. Or maybe I should be more shocked by Samsung’s crappy marketing machine. If the Note 8 is this good, why don’t they say so??

I know I can do that but it's just easier with an iPhone as well. It just works which is why I still love iPhones. Will probably get an iPhone x to go along with my note 8. IMessage is one of the must have features though snapchat among other things makes it not a necessity now.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I go through a lot of phones and currently have the 7+ and 8+ and Note 8.
I will probably get the iphone X and V30 and maybe the Pixel 2XL.

I am glad you found what works best for you! :) Download an app called Zedge in the Playstore. It has a ton of free wallpapers ringtones and notifications that you will love.

My problem is I can't choose between Android and iphones.......so i have both!

If you said some of your family members are doing the same. Duo(which is pre-installed) is a great replacement for Facetime, and your social circle that still uses iPhones can use it too. I even prefer it over Facetime and Whatsapp video calling.

No doubt iPhones are great. I’m just saying that the Note 8 is a more productive tool than ther iPhone, whioch seems to be about Apple’s quirks and design asthetics. Each iteration of the iPhone is a small step in the camera, speed, and screen. Moving to the Note 8 has been a huge step forward in actual productivty.

Thanks. Using AT&T Find Family in the interim, and still have Find iPhone on my iPad and Mac. We don’t use FacteTime so much.

My note 5s last update was in may or june. I'm still waiting for an update for airpods tho...
Also the replacement part made me laugh. I had a 6s+ that had SEVERE issues(hot to the point my hands almost burned, got hot off of restarting even light web browsing made it hot) lasted for 4 hours then died, glitched alot and my apple store refused to look at it for 3 months and said bugs and heat are normal.

it was under warranty and when they did they couldn't even touch it because of how hot it was then said its functioning normally. I contacted apple and they basically sided with my apple store. So now we fast forward to 9 months..That's when I was able to get a senior Rep to let me send the phone in...Broken motherboard, haptic engine, bad battery, bad screen. He was surprised and said I had a horrible phone. The only thing they offered was 200 in apple gift cards. Nor did they give me a new phone, they replaced all my parts.

With my 7+ I was having similar issues and guess who was of no help? My apple store. When I called apple offered me a replacement but I had to have a cc with a 1k limit so that was no dice. So ive been stuck with a non properly functioning 7+ since October. But my apple store won't even replace charging cables under warranty so why should I even bother.

I wonder if you had AC+ on that device how did you set that up. That’s only possible with a cc. Also the non return fee will only be frozen on the cc and freed up when the old device is back with them.

If I have an issue with my note I'll be taking it to the carrier for a replacement as I have insurance.

Android phones get monthly security updates so any bugs will be fixed swiftly as Samsung also include bug fixes and new features in these monthly updates.

If the 8 isn't coming close especially in the camera department, the X won't either.

I've moved so now I'm about 45 mins away from an Apple store. As for a Samsung store I believe my closet one is on Oxford street which is about 2 hours away. However it doesn't hold a candle to the old flagship store which used to be in Stratford. Now that was better than any Apple store I've ever seen. It's a shame it got shut down.

Well DXO mark have rated the iphone 8 plus as the best camera on a phone. However they haven't tested the note 8 yet so we shall see. Perhaps the 8 plus is a big step up in terms of camera performance. Apple did mention something about camera processing being hardware based.

I'm sure we will see more camera reviews very soon to have a good judgement off. Havn't seen saf's camera review yet to comment.

and yeah i've moved too the nearest one is leicester but it's not an issue as it's only 20 mins away from my parents who i see quite abit. They have two about 2 mins apart in the highcross

If you are talking to me I had bought my 6s+ and AC+ outright. Same for 7+, they told me I can't use a debit card(I asked cause my cc has a 500.00 limit) cause it would take the money out and refunding me would be a hassle. So they do credit cards instead since the hold wouldn't actually go through
