This thread is making me cry. For the love of all that is good, please wear your collars "unpopped"

Maybe we should make a pole? Collar's popped vs. unpopped

Me and my mates were all hired to be in the video for some Welsh language rap band.

I saw the video 3 times on tv and that was about it, at least we got paid and had free food and booze for a day.

eeeww... Abercrombie and popped collars. Luckily no one in my school wears that crap. :D

Where do many people shop at your school? (out of curiosity... not that I shop at Abercrombie, because I don't. In fact, I'm very much against most of the popular preppy stores).

I shop at Abercrombie primarily, and then some stuff from Polo, J. Crew, a tiny bit from American Eagle, and then 2 shirts from Lacoste.

The three other people in that my grade shop at:
-American Eagle (I hate almost everything at that store)
-Aeropostal (I hate that store too)
-Gap

then most people either wear adidas, nike, old navy, gap, or their emo stuff.

I seriously am the only person in my grade thats a boy that owns more than 1 abercrombie shirt.

There isn't a major "group" at our school since it is pretty diverse (economically, racially, etc.). There are a lot of people who wear ghetto/street/whatever you want to call it clothes, but I don't know where they shop. There are also a lot of people who just look normal.

To CompUser: Most people I come across who where the ultra-preppy clothes are stuck up and rude/noisy (not saying that you are), so that's why I don't like them.

That's awesome. At my school, everyone is white and have alot of extra cash, so they shop at Abercrombie and the like...

I tend to buy clothes from alot of places (anywhere from the thrift store to Urban Outfitters), though I try to stay away from the stereotypical prep crap.

Yeah, but remember, it's still school. :D

That's cool that you shop at the thrift store. I go there sometimes, but the one around here (Salvation Army) can be hit or miss. They also have some good computer stuff sometimes.

abercrombie also had a phase where EVERYTHING they had was horribly wrinkled. oh looky looky, abercrombie did it, it must be "stylish", right? personally i don't think so, but regardless of what tommy hilfiger, calvin klein, abercrombie & fitch, and the gap have to say about it, wrinkles are just sloppy.. and so are "popped collas" ;)
my $.02

dont listen to these naysayers. the popped collar is always in at UVA

i love how this has become a "popped collar thread." maybe someone should make this the official popped collar thread at MR. oh we could do a poll too! lol

oh you whipper-snappers!

i must be getting old, i just don't get it at all.

:p

Oddly enough, I belong to a facebook group for my college called "put your collar down, you look like a douche-bag". If anyone wants in, I suppose I could find out about it.

Well, thats the extent of the truth. Nobody really does it anymore except what were 'guidos' of the past. They do it at UVA? Well, that doesn't say much, as we ARE talking about Virginia. It still seems cool amongs the african american crowd (used in such circumstances as a vintage nba cap worn w/ brim worn sideways, and a popped polo shirt).

I do have quite a bit of Abercrombie clothing, but say no quite a bit to the tattered, torn, dragged through the mud look. I must say it makes me angry they charge 50 dollars for a polo shirt. If you guys are still collar popping, you hopped on the bandwagon a couple of years too late. I seem to recall it's big resurgance in 2004, with a slow dwindle afterwards.

Damned kids these days, with their odd trends.

Collers down! I demand it!! It looked lame in 1983 when I was in junior high, and it's still lame now. Doubly lame because it's poser.

Ugh the worst are the guys who will wear multiple burberry shirts, sometimes as many as three, all with the collars popped.

I mean come on people. One is unnecessary, three is just absurd.

Say no to popped collars!

HAHAHA thats great! I'll explain the UVA phenomenon. I believe certain people never let go of the "trend" and it still lives on today here as a trend that is only UVA. We never did it at my undergrad school and I sure dont do it here at UVA.

Same here, I stopped buying much of anything from that store. Occasionlly I will find something I like but they have lost a lot of their quality that they were known for in the early 90s.

I would not know of their quality in the early 90's, as I started buying when I entered college in 2001.

As overpriced as it is, it still holds a good bit of quality. I just lost an Abercrombie dress shirt to a big ol' rip, but it lasted me three years. Three years of probably wearing it 1-2 times a week. (I'm one of those types who believes in having fewer, nicer, durable clothing opposed to loads of cheaper, easily ripped, fallen apart, etc.. clothing)

Their current lineup of button down shirts is impressive and very ralph-lauren feeling; but I cannot justify $70 for a shirt anymore. I remember they were $49 in 2002.

Oh well!
