I was just banned from Mac-Forums.com :(

I posted my referral link for Macheist, and I received a PM from an admin stating that I couldn't post in the Applications forum. It said that I could post it in the For Sale/Trade forum so I did. I then received another PM stating I was spamming. Now I cant even access the site, it states You have been banned for the following reason: Spamming Date the ban will be lifted: Never" I thought that MacHeist was common knowledge for the Mac community. I use MacRumors most of the time, but sometimes I search on Mac-Forums. I've never been accused of spamming before, so this is a bit of a shock.

Anyone a member of Mac-Forums.com ?

I haven't actually signed up to macforum but it's pretty cool place. I found that i like this forum better so i figure i'd sign up to here.

I guess you have to be sure of the rules whenever you post up links and stuff like that.

try contacting an admin/mod and let them know that it was an honest mistake. they may take pity or they may not. their site, their rules.

I'm a member there, but I haven't posted in AGES.

MacRumors is far spicier. I find Mac-Forums a little too laid back, if you can believe that. :p

I don't recommend that. It seems forum admins don't really approve of duplicate accounts.

That's what I was about to say...we certainly don't look upon it kindly here. We ask users to use the "Contact Us" form linked at the bottom of every page if they wants to contact us...no account necessary, so no need to re-register if they've been banned.

But I don't see anything similar on their site...how odd and disappointing.

Yep. What gets me is how fast they were to ban me. I can understand if I just joined today and started spamming on a bunch of threads/forums. I created an account there the same time I created one here. How would MacRumors handle something like thats? For one thing, someone was smart enough to create a thread for Macheist referral links. :)

Yeah, I'm kind of a frequent poster there. (365 posts; see if you can find out who I am :p)

Was it Schweb who banned you? He's a total ******.

I'm being naughty...

And off topic but I read this...

For saying "less" instead of "fewer?"

:p
And I'm in love. Almost. ;)

It all depends on how the link was being posted. Once and in a relevant thread? Likely delete the post and warn the poster.

Multiple times in different threads? Dunno, gets a bit stickier then. :p

It was actually someone named D3v1L80Y that sent me the PM. I guess we know why hes called Devilboy...

I was banned from here for a few days :( My own fault (even if they deserved the abuse) I was rather abusive to someone and got put in time-out for 3 days. The time-out idea is pretty good though, means if you make a silly mistake (even if you feel it's justified :D ) you can still come back.

Trouble is they wipe your statements from "history" too which is completely Orwellian. It might be argued that they remove from view the "offending" remarks but to scrub it completely? So it's like it was never said, non searchable! Creepy.
