iPhone XS Max I wasn’t going to get a new one

but I wound up with an xs max. So did the wife.

I have a 6s plus that runs great. Put a new battery in a month or so ago. We decided to get ours because of att’s buy one and 2nd at a 700 discount. Plus we needed to dump t-mobile. Horrible coverage where we moved to.

One thing I hane read about is the “massive” screen size. It’s no change in “hand” size because it fits in my incipio 6s plus case exactly sizw wise. Of course the holes do not line up but overall size it fit the case perfectly.

The notch? Goofy, but not worried about it.

I am far more impressed with this home buttonless phone than I thought I would be. Took no time to get used to it.

Overall I really like it. Too much money? Yes, but you only live once.

The increased screen size in the same size phone is ok, but it would be more noticible if it was less length and more width. I don’t see the much larger screen, but probably because of the same “hand” size and for the most part length.

Just my straight from the hip thoughts. What do others think making this type of change? Plus to max.

I have the iPhone X and no problems.

I think the XS max is a perfect size given it’s basically all screen.

I wouldn’t mind that size for holding if you’re getting that screen size.

Some advice. Try and not use full brightness. Apple is using Samsung's OLEDs. Best way to get screen burn in the first year, or two is having it at max, or close to max brightness. I keep mine in the middle to upper middle.

Max brightness may only be an issue if you are displaying the same static image for 510 hours continuously in testing.

The displays aren't technically "Samsung OLEDs". They are manufactured by Samsung but to Apple's specs.
iOS has a different color calibration too.
The difference in burn in time is 510 hours (displaying the same image) vs. being impacted sooner and worse on Samsung's own phones.

They don't suffer the same problems or nearly as soon, where is your evidence that they do?

Apple's OLED phones are realtively new into the market. It will take more time to determine how burn in effectes the screens. Samsung has had OLED from like 2012, so obviously the issues with their older OLED screens have been more well documented. The iPhone X has only been out for about a year so far, so it's too soon to tell.

Ok. I use it at about 40%. I really hate the piss yellow of true tone. I’m not too crazy about dead body blue either but its better. I actually liked the whites better on the 6s plus.

It's still safe to say that iPhones will not suffer the same fate as soon as Samsung's own OLEDs since the
tests prove they don't function the same way, which is the point I'm making.

The iPhone X doesn't produce the burn in during testing anywhere near the same as the Samsung phones tested.

Until those results come in, it isn't safe to assume they will suffer burn in within the
time frame as a Samsung phone, since the extensive testing shows otherwise.
Old Nexus phones with OLED have few to zero issues, for example.

Well to be fair, the phones are fabricated and put together using Apple inhouse designs, while the screens are put together with Apple's requested specifications, the design and underlying technology is still Samsung. Therefore it's still a "Samsung screen" and "tuned by samsung" to fit Apple's needs.

I got applecare as I was unsure if there would be problems. I really hate stacking more money ln an already expensive phone but I yhought better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The tech has been improved. The phones that have suffered in the past was usually due to the person haveing screen on max bright 24/7.

Image Retention (Or ‘Burn in’) is extremely rare on current OLED panels. I have never come across someone with burn in in person with the iPhone X or even on these forums, it’s been extremely rare that I have even come across a case where someone experienced image retention. The only image retention that was immediately apparent, is the display models that you see in store that are operating 18 hours a day/7 days a week at full brightness.

I just upgraded from a 6s+ to max as well. I even put a new battery in the 6s+ a few months back. That great phone will go to my wife.

It’s been nothing but perfect so far but I do share your wish that it was slightly wider and a little shorter - basically the exact same size as a plus phone but the entire thing is screen.

In saying that, watching movies on it is fantastic and I can actually read comics on it because of the length (landscape make it big enough for me to read the text and I can get a panels width worth on screen)

My screen is perfect. Uniform with a great natural temp. Like you though, I think it was too expensive.

The only thing I miss about the home button is double click to bring up the app switcher / killer. Wish that was easier. Face ID is great.

Just happy I didn’t get a phone with one of the many problems they are having for some people.

My 6s plus is going to my 15 year old step son.

So far I have no problems either. I really have no problem with the temp after all. Looked bluish switching back and forth to true tone, but using it for a while it doesn’t.

True temp is horrible though. For some reason the life lijes it on hers.

Face id far exceeds my expectations. Like you the only hhing I miss is the app switcher on home button. Give me a little while though as its still easy.

Just thinking sbout it. When I got the 6s + I also had a moto x pure. Loved that phone also, could have went with either but the step daughter wanted the moto.

This one I can think of no other phone I like just as much. A cleae winner for me.
