Sorry I wasn't specific, the iPhone 6 plus only flips around on the standard display zoom. When on the zoomed display zoom it will not flip.

Really? Interesting, didn't know that.

I wonder if the reason I've had a lot of upside down home screens yesterday and today is related to 8.1.3. I only updated yesterday, always wait a couple of days now. I know previously my 6 Plus stubbornly refused to rotate occasionally, and I wonder if they've upped the sensitivity.

If it continues with the same frequency I'm going have to use rotation lock more, which is annoying as I often use landscape keyboard and photos.

Try using the zoomed display mode. I actually prefer it to normal display. The app icons are a little bigger but the home screen will not rotate. All apps that normally rotate when in landscape mode will work as usual. I do not use the rotate lock except when I use the music app.

Just tried it, I see what you mean, no rotation. Don't particularly want to lose (admittedly very little) screen real estate though, and to a lesser extent add another layer of scaling (debatable whether I'd notice, but I'd KNOW, if you know what I mean).

I don't think the zoomed mode causes the 6+ to scale the screen twice. I think it just changes the scaling factor it is using. But, since the 6+ scales the screen no matter which mode you are using, you don't really lose anything scaling-wise by using zoom mode.

See this chart for more.

That makes sense actually. Still, I'll live with the occasional upside down screen to keep the normal scaling.

Like Android, Apple just needs a setting that enables/disables 180 degree rotation. It would be nice if it worked for all apps though, it's very useful when charging your phone in the car and placing it in the cup holder.

That's because upside down can be enabled/disabled by the developer. So some apps may work upside down while other apps may refuse to rotate.
It can be pretty annoying, so the best move by Apple would be to include a setting to disable upside down orientation. Now you can lock the orientation but you lose the ability to rotate landscape, we need one more choice.

But the guy you were replying to pointed out several stock apps (safari, photos, messages) that don't work upside down.

No way around it. Apple simply didn't think this through. It makes sense to allow it to rotate 270 degrees but flipping the UI upside down makes no sense unless you make all stock apps work that way. And even if they do that, it's still goofy because must people put their phones in their pockets upside down and flip it right side up.

EDIT: Wohoho! Guy above me is right....it's fixed! Oh Happy day!
