No I said I want hold home button to turn off, not Siri.

Why don't you understand that simple concept?
But that's how you access Siri. The millions of other iPhone users don't seem to have an issue with so it looks like you might be doing something wrong or just being overly fussy. Have you considered that another phone such as an android might suit you better seeing as you find it hard to operate the iPhone?

I turned off the hold home to use voice control and siri... it turns off siri.

So it doesn't work still... why can't I turn it off and keep siri on? It means I cannot use my apple watch or voice control in my headphones.

It's another blizzard move from Apple, they finally put that option in and it doesn't work how you want.

I just want to turn off the hold home function, not siri.

I was waiting for this. Your thread title reads:

I wish we could just turn Siri and voice control off....

But since you're just here to complain and not actually address the issue, I knew, just knew, that you'd come back with this after you'd been given the completely obvious answer. Regardless, you've been able to disable Siri as long as I can remember, dating back to iOS 5.

Finally, going back to address the actual issue. It seems to me that you're using the home button wrong. You do not need to press and hold it for TouchID to activate. You simply need to press and release the home button to wake the screen, and leave your finger on the button for a moment or two after that while the TouchID reads your fingerprint.

Why don't you simply stop holding down the home button when you just want to unlock your phone? Isn't that much simpler?

(And yes, turning off Siri turns off Siri... Shocking, I know! ;))

My Title got cut off, so it didn't read that when I wrote it...

I'm not using the home button wrong, it happens to me and lots of people when using the phone with one hand. You press the home button for just a little bit too long and it launches Siri, I'm not the only one as I've spoke to lots of people about it and they say it sometimes happens to them too.

Why are people attacking me as in I'm wrong? How about we just have an option to turn off hold home to launch Siri? Why are people saying I'm asking to turn off Siri? No, the two aren't exclusive, I can launch siri with double tapping my AirPods, I can launch it via saying "hey siri" and via my Apple Watch..... WTF PEOPLE? Holding Home isn't the only way and I want to be able to turn that off while keeping Siri on because Apple lock features behind Touch Id, which is why I end up holding the home button for so long as it doesn't work well.

Also for people saying all I do is bash Apple... no you're just looking for my negative posts. I love my iMac, I love my iPad 12.9, I love my Apple Watch and I love my Apple Airport Extreme. However I hate a lot about what Apple do, I'm not biased like you guys, I have my issues with Apple products. Like the new AirPods, they are **** and Apple TV is ****.

And the people "I knew you'd be back"... what? Are you so sad you remember people and spend our life on the forum? I have a life, I'm not going to look up any of your history on here like some weirdo stalker.

You can disable Siri and voice control. You can also use a setting to just rest your finger to unlock. I don't know which iOS version you are on but if it's the latest, these options will most likely be there.

Not sure how someone could blatantly miss this... unless either they're beyond stupid or, the more likely, just trying to rant about Apple for some unknown justification of dislike towards the company.

I wanna disable voice control. People don't want to talk to my ass.

**edit** I used my basic language skills and read above.

I think it's been well established throughout this discussion that you can't do what you're asking. It is the primary way to access Siri, most iPhone users don't have an Apple Watch or EarPods connected and it's not always appropriate/possible to use 'hey siri'. I understand in a perfect world iOS would let you disable specific methods of activating certain features but it's common knowledge that iOS is not big on customisation, hence my suggestion that maybe your money would be better spent elsewhere.
Your options really are to submit it via apples feedback system and learn to live with it or get a different phone. Calling people names and making childish rants won't achieve anything.

Then what exactly did it say? It's not like your post clarified it either, so I'm not sure what you were expecting.

I'm not using the home button wrong, it happens to me and lots of people when using the phone with one hand. You press the home button for just a little bit too long and it launches Siri, I'm not the only one as I've spoke to lots of people about it and they say it sometimes happens to them too.

I'm sure you and lots of other people also have this problem. Then again, a much larger percentage has no problem at all. It has honestly never been an issue for me on any of the iPhones I've owned, nor any of the iPhones that my friends or family own. This is all conjecture either way. But I will point out that if it were as widespread of an issue as you are claiming, Apple would be fixing it and/or people wouldn't be buying iPhones.

Why are people attacking me as in I'm wrong? How about we just have an option to turn off hold home to launch Siri? Why are people saying I'm asking to turn off Siri? It's been established that the functionality that you want isn't possible currently. Complaining on here isn't going to change anything. Send Apple feedback and stop giving them your money until your problems are addressed.

Apple will go down in history in so many ways, but a big one will be how they've created such a dedicated customer base. So many people seem to hate what Apple are doing, are frustrated by their products and their direction, but continue to spend thousands on their products.

My wife really dislikes her iPhone 7. She moans about the lack of headphone jack, says it's too slippy and often looks at my Android phone and comments how she wishes hers could do that (like when my phone pings to says there's traffic so I should leave for work earlier than I thought).

But there is no way she will even consider the idea of using an Android phone. Hers is currently broken and I've offered her mine, but she's not interested at all - she'd rather stick with a barely-usable, soon-to-die iPhone.

There's no doubt Apple's marketing is incredible.

I'm definitely with your wife on the slippery issue, but not with my iPhone 7 Plus.

I hated the 6&6s brushed aluminium, slippier than an eel with a jelly jacket. I've got nerve damage in my arm which causes the (not so occasional) twitch. That would make the 6 fly out of my hand, so it lived permanently in a leather case.

But when iPhone 7 came about, I initially ordered a matte black one. But after speaking to some nice helpful folks on these here forums and trying out the Jet Black I switched to it in the blink of an eye. I find the glossy finish to be the most grippable and least slippery phone Apple have made in years. Finally I'm happy to use one without a case again, and I haven't dropped it as a result of the twitching.

Again it's not turning off Siri, it's turning off hold home to launch Siri.
No, the setting disables Siri entirely.

Anyhow, your issue definitely is you holding the button down too long. Just click it; a press, then immediately release it. Don't hold it down; that way Siri won't come on.

Accidentally activating Siri while holding my phone is pretty rare.

In my pocket, though, it happens way more than it should. Seems to happen once every week or two. I'll feel something warm on my leg so I'll pull my phone out of my pocket and see Siri is listening to everything going on and my phone is down 10+% since I last used it.

Never had this problem on previous iPhones so it's probably the new home (not an actual) button causing this problem.

Everytime I hit the home button it pops up and I have to wait for it to do it's own thing. I recently spoke with family who also have iPhones and they say the same thing.

The problem is you press down for it to read your fingerprint as it's so slow at doing it, then it ends up being slightly too long and it pops up. I dunno why every reviewer says Touch ID is fast because on every apple device I've used, it take a few times or a few seconds.

I wish I could turn that off too but Apple Pay forces you to use it.
I'm guessing you're on an iPhone 5, 5s, or 6, yes? One that doesn't have "raise to wake" and the slower Touch ID, yes?

I experienced the same thing myself on my old 6. I know what you're talking about.

It's infuriating at first, but then you figure out how to click the home button momentarily to illuminate the screen and then immediately ease-off pressure, but keep your finger in contact with it until it finishes recognizing your fingerprint. After that the phone unlocks. Voila!

I think my issue early on was that the phone wasn't recognizing my fingerprint reliably, so I was angrily pressing down HARD on the button thinking that would help recognition. Of course all that does is activate Siri.

Or maybe you have a defective home button or Touch ID?

What phone do you have? OS version? AppleCare? I'd recommend a trip to a store if possible. They'll be able to help you better in person. This is a complex thing to diagnose and describe in writing.
