I wonder how many betas we are going to get of Big Sur. Since the build number of Big Sur is 20A4300b. since it already has a b at the end

Apple says the final release is coming "This Fall" so it's not a firm date. From what I hear the developer beta has been well received and works fairly well.

How many developer betas did we have on catalina and mojave? We can make an educated guess based on that.

Compared to several of the last Mac OS releases, Big Sur seems to be much further along and more stable than its predecessors. That makes an apples to apples comparison of beta releases somewhat difficult to assess. Also, Apple usually releases the new iOS and Mac OS within a few weeks of each other, so delays with one OS might affect the release date and beta cycles of the other.

Catalina had 10 Beta releases and 1 GM release.

  • 11th Catalina 10.15 GM Seed (19A582a) – 10/03/19 – Release Notes
  • 10th Catalina 10.15 Beta 10 (19A578c) – 09/30/19 – Release Notes
  • 9th Catalina 10.15 Beta 9 (19A573a) – 09/23/19 – Release Notes
  • 8th Catalina 10.15 Beta 8 (19A558d) – 09/10/19 – Release Notes
  • 7th Catalina 10.15 Beta 7 (19A546d) – 08/28/19 – Release Notes
  • 6th Catalina 10.15 Beta 6 (19A536g) – 08/19/19 – Release Notes
  • 5th Catalina 10.15 Beta 5 (19A526h) – 07/31/19 – Release Notes
  • 4th Catalina 10.15 Beta 4 (19A512f) – 07/17/19 – Release Notes
  • 3rd Catalina 10.15 Beta 3 (19A501i) – 07/02/19 – Release Notes

Yeah, DEV Beta 2 is pretty solid, fine for my daily driver. Few issues here and there and performance could be a little better in places (Safari media I'm looking at you), but nothing I use is broken. Im optimistic that this release will be reasonably smooth sailing and we'll get a very nice OS out of it at the end.

Catalina.......I installed the public beta 1 and rolled back to Mojave within 24 hours.

macOS Big Sur 11.0 -10.16 Beta 1 (20A4299v)
macOS Big Sur 11.0 –10.16 Beta 2 (20A4300b)

Here is another big jump for V to B - like iOS jumped from V to I
[automerge]1594300370[/automerge]
What do you think about them calling it 11.0 and not 10.16? To me I say its a good since the UI is has changed I say they should skip the 10.16 and go to 11 since it is kind of a new era

Beta 2 is build 20A4300 which is just one build up from Beta 1 (20A4299v) which would explain the "b". In other words, beta 2 is like a re-release of beta 1, possibly with only one change made, thus less revisions were needed.

When it comes to the question, I kinda want to say November, however they might release in October as usual. Probably they won't want to space out the release dates of iOS and macOS a lot.

And when it comes to it being 11, I think it makes sense with the updated UI and the transition to ARM CPUs.
