Hi I made an appointment for the genius bar fir tomorrow at the apple store for a battery issue. While I was making the appointment I asked the cost for glass back. The tech said $29.00.

I wonder how much replacing the front costs.

Replacing the front glass from Apple cost $199; they will give you new iphone as replacement instead of replacing glass because now glass is directly connected with the screen and its too hard to replace glass only. So they charge $199 for replacement with new phone (yes i asked this from Apple rep and thats what he told me).

Thank you for the info. I started a thread (6 pages now) about a aluminum back plate for around that price, but now knowing Apple's original glass back is 29$, I won't be too worried.

I appreciate the post.

Agreed, good little piece of info to know. I never would have thought they would replace that so cheap.

Is this something we can go in and just buy or do we need to bring in the phone to be repaired.

Reason I'm asking is, it would be nice to have one at home as a backup just incase..

took bad customers cant take advantage of that pricing

its nice info,i wanted to buy white oem backplate and it runs over 100$ so 29$ from apple sound very very nice ,it would be interesting to know if they have white ones and if they are at same price range as the black one.

That is awesome in my opinion!

To me its most useful if you get a scratch on the glass where the camera is! Cheap fix, sweeet!

Makes those invishield zaggers kinda ridiculous now, at least for the back panel. :D

The back panel does include the lens cover? Is it all one piece? I would assume it is but I am not sure.

Wonder if there's an option for a white glass back. I'd love to swap mine out for that.

No, unfortunately not. The back glass panel has a part number and when they do a replacement, it'll be like for like. Not to mention, the Apple stores won't have the white ones in stock until the white iPhone is released.

That's a shame. Assuming the parts have the same shape and construction, and it is being sold at a profit, why wouldn't they let you get a white backing as opposed to the stock black? It sounds like a neat customization if someone felt so inclined. If Apple is still making a buck and keeping the servicing with their in house technicians, why would they care what color you bought (when it's available)?

When/if the white iPhone 4 is released, then you could probably order a white backing for whatever color of your iPhone 4, why people assume otherwise is not clear for me. At most you might lost the warranty, or they might not install them themselves...
