Why would I want adverts in my OS?
If this does happen I hope the Adblocker people come to our rescue.

Before we all go flying off the handle and declare our allegiance to the almighty Windows, think about it. If implemented, it will simply be an option. They will still market old school OS X.

    Who said anything about Windows?

I'm not sure if it would be an option or not. It's not clear, but there's a picture of OS X in the article. Interesting stuff, indeed.

Maybe it is to get a patent on it before ad-supported versions of other applications make it to the marketplace. I can see ad-supported versions of iWork being offered gratis.

I can see this as well. Sort of like a "Trial" except you get to keep using it and it's ad supported.

If mac OS had this implemented, I could see a "free" upgrade version with iAds.
Then, if you really liked it, you could spend money and get an ad free version.

Reminds me of what Microsoft does with pre-installed versions of MS Works on OEM PCs—it's free, but the app displays ads at you occasionally. I'm pretty optimistic that Apple wouldn't make displaying ads mandatory in Mac OS X, too.
