The Register today reported that "IBM demonstrated a blade server board based on the Cell architecture at the E3 show this week."

Some stats on the board:
- Two Cells clocked at 2.8 GHz
- IBM claims that 3.0 GHz Cells are in the lab... with a "theoretical performance of 400Gflops for a two chip board."
- Running Linux

"Unsurprisingly, perhaps, the demo board featured chunky heatsinks and fans. However, IBM expects to be able to use thinner heat sinks which will allow it to squeeze seven of the boards into a rackmount chassis."

<speculation>
Such a demo apparently shows IBM's intention to use the Cell in 'mainstream' business applications such as a Blade server... which may give credence to those who expect the Cell to eventually find its way into the Mac architecture.
</speculation>
