ibook + Amp + Speakers?

I've got the 12" ibook and i'm wanting to use an amp and speakers with it.
My question is how do I go about it? (I know nothing about audio).

Is it just a case of:

So I plug the connector into the sound jack on the ibook then that to the amp? or do I need other stuff?
