Hi my serial number on my iBook battery is:

6C5345 VLS9YD

Can someone help me with regards to the Apple Battery Exchange, does my battery need to be replaced? I'm a bit confused

No it doesn't...you have a "Y" instead of a "W" in the second-to-last position.

So I don't have a battery that will explode or something. I was really worried because the site says:

If the first 5 digits of your battery’s 12-digit serial number fall within the noted ranges, please order a replacement battery immediately.

Nope you're fine...in the case of your "first five," it's only a subset of those batteries (those that have the specified "last four") that are part of the recall.
