I have no idea where this ridiculous rumor about the ibook g4 not having altivec came from.

Here are some FACTS:

All G4's have 'altivec' or 'velocity engine' if they didn't it would be a G3.

According to XBench results, the new G4 ibook uses the 7455 processor, the same used in the rev a 12" powerbooks.

'nuff said.

Just to further this point and forever quash this totally stupid rumour that the iBook doesn't have a Velocity Engine simply because they didn't write it into the specs, Apple has updated the specs page and it is now written into the specs explicitly (they've also corrected the maximum RAM listing to 640 MB).

http://www.apple.com/ibook/specs.html

Pretty soon people will start bitching that the ISO keyboard has one extra key over the US-layout keyboard. OH NO! WHY DON'T WE HAVE THAT KEY!?! BLASTED APPLE! ;)

Don't know if it has been brought up, has anyone heard if the keyboard on the new ibook is the same? I am excited about the upgrades and will get a new ibook unless the keyboard is the same as on the last one. Thanks v

I heard they are improved but not as good as the ones in the powerbook. They are sturdier but they still flip up to put in the airport card.

woo woo! xlr8yourmac is reporting that the screen spanning hack is working on the new ibooks!

..muuust ... resist... tonite...
