I have not checked as I don't own a clamshell.

However, when I considered getting a new battery for my G4, I read that some people buy the cells inside the battery (they are usually common among lots of models) and repack the old battery with the new cells.

Of course you should be prepared for some soldering...

There are some YT videos on this subject. While some were successful they never went back together right, so the fit was wonky when put back into the clamshell.

I’m surprised no one has made a 3D printed shell to load new cells & componentry into.

I was just wondering if its possible to get new batteries for the old clamshell.

I bought one from Amazon about 4-5 years ago. It lost about 1/3 of its capacity after a couple of charges. Given the very limited market for these things, I wouldn't hold my breath or expect much if you do unearth one.

I doubt that you still can get one. Even aliexpress only have for the white ibooks and powerbooks.
But you can get them redone, you just need to buy 18650 cells, it won't be cheap but at least you know what you have.

Everyone's favorite Mac nerd (well, at least some people's) to the rescue! David, the8bitguy née theibookguy had a video on this very subject!

Turns out you'll need 8 high quality *brand name* 18650 lithium batteries (however, get ones with TABS like these - to solder to if you choose to take this project, much safer than directly soldering to the battery like he does), available on eBay for around $30 or so, and some soldering experience.
