I just realized that something was missing from my iBook: a sleep indicator light. It's a Dual USB iBook G3 Snow. Does anyone know if these are supposed to have a light and why it wouldn't be activating if they do?

I'd have to double check with my G3 iBook, but I'm pretty sure it has one. I know for a fact my G4 iBooks which look almost identical have them.

Are you sure the computer is actually going to sleep? Try a clean install or boot it from another drive (like TDM)?

None of the PPC Macs I have activate the light when the display turns off (with the computer still awake), unlike my Intel Macs. For example, on my Intel Macs, the light would turn on when I put the computer to sleep, and would start pulsing after a while (when it actually goes to sleep), whereas on my PPC Macs it jumps directly to pulsing only after it fully goes to sleep, so could it be that your machine does not actually ever go to full sleep?

I'll check later on my computer if you need me to.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain it's going to sleep. I have OS 9 installed and it acts as though it's resuming from sleep when I open the lid. One thing I did just think of is that the motherboard was replaced before it came into my possession and I'm wondering if the indicator light was never re-connected.

I just checked, it definitely has a sleep indicator light, located right next to the button that unlatches the screen. It's integrated really nicely, it doesn't show unless the computer's sleeping. You can't miss it. If it bothers you can try taking it apart and re-connecting it. But from what I read, all iBooks were an absolute nightmare to take apart, so you'd have to see if the effort is worth it for you, especially if the issue isn't just that the light was unplugged, but if it was actually broken or the connector (or port) was broken.

Ok, thanks. I plan to do an SSD upgrade on this machine anyway. I'll check then ;)
