I'm replacing the hard drive in my iBook G4 (12", 1.33ghz, 40gb hd, OS X 10.5.8) with a larger hard drive (320 gb Western Digital Scorpio Blue, 5400 rpm) and I need some advice. I'm confident I can handle the physical act of replacing the hard drive itself, it's the formatting that leads up to and comes after the installation that I'm trying to figure out.

I also ordered a USB enclosure, and my plan was to transfer the current hard drive contents onto the new hard drive while it's out of the computer, so that I can test it out and boot from the new disk before installing it to make sure everything works. Then install the new hard drive into the computer, and when everything works right, put the old hard drive in the USB enclosure and wipe it clean to use as a 40gb portable drive.

Can someone guide me through it or tell me where can I find instructions on what to do for formatting, transferring, etc?
