Yeah, it was kind of weird to see this thread reappear after looking at it MONTHS ago.

Although it is interesting that Aspyr requires a G4 chip and Apple says that it will work on an iBook...

Hmm...

Furthermore, IBM has said in the past that it could "easily" push the Sahara G3 chip to 2 Ghz. Do you know how sweet a 2 Ghz ibook with a 200 mhz bus would be? There's no reason that the ibook, or the G3, should or will die anytime soon. Who cares how old it technically is. A 2 Ghz Sahara G3 with a 200 mhz bus would walk all over the current powerbooks in most tasks.

That's just IBM talking out of their butts.

Why would the Sahara be able to run at 2ghz when the the replacement chip (the Gobi) is expected to run at speeds "up to 1.1ghz"? Here's an up-to-date LINK from IBM.

The reason that the iBook is at 900mhz is because IBM has only been able to get the Sahara to 900mhz. However, the 100mhz bus is totally Apple's doing.

That's what IBM had said way back in 2001. But looking at their latest documentation, it looks like they've stalled at 900mhz.

As for what the cause of the stall is/was, that's up for debate. Perhaps Apple told them that they wouldn't be buying any more 750FXs so IBM stopped developing them in favor of the 750GX. Who knows?
