Hey guys, I ordered an iBook Clamshell 466MHz (Lime), and got it in today. It won't play my DVDs, and the previous owner had Tiger installed on it (it's still on there) - is there a way I can get it to play dvds? 😀

Thanks.

I didn't think that the clamshells came with a DVD-R. weren't the 500 MHz icebooks the first with a BTO DVD-R?

The 466, the DVD was an optional upgrade. They usually only had CD-ROMs. Especially the Lime, I believe it was the Graphite that had DVD.

That's what I was thinking. Looks like the specs say there were no DVD drives in them until the Graphite.

No, it has a DVD-ROM drive, that's how the other owner installed Tiger. It sees my movie DVD, but won't play it. Any suggestions?

Get a CD/DVD cleaner with soft brushes, it sounds like the lens can't focus on the two layers of the DVD, but it could on the Tiger DVD as it is single layer.

All lime 466 ibooks had a dvd. I have one and it works great. As for the functioning of the drive, do cd's work fine? Also, do you have "dvd player" in your applications folder? If you do go into "about this mac" and then to "more info" then look under the "ATA" tab, and look for your optical drive. It could have been replaced with another drive in the past.
