Hey guys after a bit of advice,

Randomly from time to time the trackpad on my iBook (spec in sig) stops responding. Weirdly when plugging in a USB mouse, or restarting, fixes the issue, but why would it do this in the first place? Surely if it was a hardware issue a restart wouldn't fix it?

Secondly, sometimes when starting the iBook you can hear the disk startup, but immediately powers off! The only way to get it to work is to hold the Apple Logo (cmd) key during start up.

As this isn't my main device it's not of vital importance, but an annoyance none the less!

Suggestions...?

Sounds like you need to re load the operating system. As for the shut down, it sounds like a power issue, either the DC in board is going bad, the battery is dead or your power adapter isn't working well. Probably the DC in board.

Issues

Try zapping the pram? Do you use a good battery? That holds the pram on the iBook. Also repair permissions from disk utility, it's what it's there for to fix minor issues like that.
