Will I need to tear out the hard drive or can I hook it up to another mac or maybe even a pc :)eek:) and get some files back? Thanks.

The other choice is to remove the drive and put it into an external enclosure and connect it to a Mac.

if it really is just the logic board your chances should actually be pretty good. You can also try using some forensic programs if you are comfortable with terminal. If things aren't immediately there you can try using something like a port of testdisk
