After 3 days of contact with Apple support they have determined that even though they sold units with defective logic boards and the serial number of our unit falls in the range of units with the problem, Apple is not going to honor the replacement or prorate repair since the program expired in August...

I thought only software houses used customers to beta test their products....any thoughts on how to proceed?

It's not brilliant advice, but have you tried taking it to an actual Apple Store? You might have more luck face-to-face. :)

The iBook logic board problem is only good for three years beyond your original date of purchase. No Apple warranty or repair program goes beyond three years.

Want an easy and simple solution? Go to your local office supply store and purchase a binder clip big enough to clamp the side of your iBook. Clamp it about a half inch down from the bottom of the keyboard, all the way on the left side. It should boot and run splendidly, but you'll have to limit how much you move the computer around and you'll want to be especially gentle with it henceforth, especially when running.
