I came across a few interesting sites about painting ibooks. I decided this would be a good way to kill this weekend and wanted to give it a shot. I popped the top cover off the lcd but it looks like white plastic to me. The sites all mentioned it just being paint (though, all the mods seem to be done on 2001 year models). I've got a 900 mhz one and am curious if I'm just not seeing it or if it really is white plastic that I can't really do anything about. Might just end up painting the outside a la miniTi. Thanks for any help.

The newer iBooks (900Mhz) use solid white plastic whereas the older ones (like this 800 I'm typing on) use clear plastic with white on the inside. Apple changed to cut costs.

i also have a 900 mhz ibook, and i found the same thing. I still wanted to mod my case, so I just went on ebay and typed in ibook parts, and you can find the top and bottom case parts to older ibooks fairly easily. I have only done the bottom right now; I'm still waiting for the top half to arrive. I am also going to have to get a battery from one of the old models if I want it to match, but it is okay for now. The bottom case is pretty cheap, mine was about $10, but the top is a little more expensive.
