I just got my first ever mac today. A 12" ibook.

Now I charged it and the battery life only said about 2hours 30min (its now down to 1:50hrs). I haven't been doing too much with it, web browsing etc.

I just thought it would last for longer, like 4.5hrs or something. Should I completely discharge it and recharge or what? Will it be better next charge?

Thanks.

Yes. Check out this.
You should be getting over five hours on a new unit.

If your battery deteriorates by 50% in the first year, you can get a new battery replacement free from Apple, I believe.

You should go to a place like www.batteryuniversity.com to learn more about Li-Ion batteries that go in your laptop, mobile, iPod, whatever. 😉
