iBook stuck at loading up for ages

There are many things you can try:
- Archive and Install
- Complete erase and install
- Check permissions/disk
- repair permissions/disk
- Do you have more than 10 GB left on your HD?
- Do you have a lot of start-up items?
- What peripherals do yo have plugged in via FW, USB, etc.?
