My wish list for iBooks has only one thing on it. I want it to have Kindle's flexibility when it comes to going back over your annotations. iBooks jumbles together all your "Highlight" and "Note" annotations, under one column: "Notes." But for study purposes, this makes review a joke. I'd like a filter to turn off the highlights and just have the notes.

Now, I love iBooks. But without that important change, it is hard to use it for academic purposes.

Which is why I use PDF Expert for academic/PDF books and papers.

Those are some of the new assets that could be found in the early iOS 11.3 beta IPSWs (before Apple reverted the iBooks/Books app to its pre-iOS 11.3 state in beta 4). The book design is reminiscent of iOS 6, but much flatter with very little texturing. Apart from that, the design language is very similar to the Music, Podcasts, App Store and TV apps, with things like 3D Touch action menus coming to the Books app. Some icons are used for a new "Want to Read" feature (which could probably be something like a wish list). There are also some "Add to Library" icons, that, along with the new welcome screens, could possibly mean that there will be an Apple Books subscription service. And the Love/Dislike controls from Apple Music were also present, hinting at some kind of recommendation feature.

I do, too! For PDFs. But you can’t use PDF expert for ePubs.
As much as I love epubs, they suck for anything with pictures. PDFs really are the way to go with worksheets, textbooks, flyers, etc (for now). And I hate Adobe. That said, the new pages app is like the new ibooks publisher now. Unfortunately it is locked into only apple products.

God almighty! This is so freaking depressing: a "redesign" is basically a 'recently viewed' tab? Seriously???? UGHHHHHH...I want to spend an hour writing a lengthy screed on how much iBooks sucks. In. every. way. imaginable. Has anyone ever tried copy/pasting a paragraph from an ePub that is in iBooks?! HA - HA - HAaaaa...omg it's maddening. Here's an example, (macOS version)
“[three to four sentences then ->] The theological decisions of bishops might be translated into policy by the Christian emperor. But[…]”
Excerpt From: Gerard O'Daly. “Augustine's City of God : A Reader's Guide.” iBooks.

ok, so, first - if I want to copy a little more than some unknown character count to MS word so I can finish an article or footnote, how about iBooks let me do it! I mean, the alternative is to understand that iBooks determined that anything after the ellipses [...] doesn't matter - guess it must not.

second, I know grad students are annoying about notation rules, but could someone please tell me where the "excerpt from" format can be found? Seriously?! (A) IT'S NOT AN ACTUAL CITATION THAT MATCHES ANY STYLE GUIDE...how do I know? Because (B) IT DOESN"T CONTAIN USEFUL NOTATION INFO! it has the author, the book in quote marks (should be underlined or italics, and "iBooks." I get that flowing text doesn't work well with page numbers, but iBooks tells us nothing.

third, you then either have to reformat that stupid citation or delete it EVERY SINGLE TIME you copy text! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Who thought that was a good idea? I'm serious, I want to know! I'm assuming that it was at an office party after hours, since clearly apple quit R&D years ago.

This is so repulsive it just makes me...ughhh...can't...gotta stop now

I think for a searchable digital text, it is rational to only have to cite the work/book. Page numbers are quite redundant. I get it, as I am also an academic and we are in the habit of needing page numbers. But I want the most simple text possible. I want page numbers out of the way. They are 15th century!

What exactly is only locked into Apple products now? There are other ways to make an .epub
