Why are the ibooks and powerbooks just as expensive as the macbooks?? I would have thought they would go down seeing as they are on the way out and macbooks are in....I just thought it was odd.
In all honesty, its because people are pretty stupid all around.
LoL.
Ok maybe thats harsh, but if you troll here long enough, you can become quite learned in the pricing of macs, old and new.
People dont realize that for $200 more they can have something BRAND NEW, or they truly think what they are buying IS current and as fast or amazing as a brand new one.
iBooks and Powerbooks, the day the MB and MBPs became available, SHOULD have dropped dramatically, but they havent.
In terms of what you get for your money, people are basically being "ripped-off" by purchasing G4 laptops. Though, its not a rip off if people are WILLING to pay that much.
The whole thing makes NO sense to me.
You're thinking is a bit warped on the drop in price. Just because a new model comes out doesn't meant that prices should've dropped drastically. Some computers can hold their value extremely well and all Apple computers are that way. You also need to consider that there are still people who will buy a PPC computer over an Intel computer at the moment because the programs they need aren't compiled as Intel-native or UB yet.

very very true.
but i was only looking at it from a "component" perspective.
such as, a G4 cpu and the "oldtype" RAM, GPU, smaller stock HDs, slower burners etc etc.
vs
coreduo, "better" gpu, larger stock hds, newer burners blah blah
that the costs of the new vs the costs of the used should not be as close as they are.
g4 is two generations behind the current apple laptop lineup's cpu. and it being a dual core, technically speaking, is like having two old Powerbook CPUs in one.
so, my argument is not that apple lappys shouldnt hold value, but that the current values are extremely high given the current trend of dual cores (and beyond) lower power consumption and that laptops and desktops have become equally powerful, only a desktop can be expanded upon internally. whereas before the apple laptops were always behind in performance to their desktop counterparts....
You sound bitter.
i believe that the reason the PowerBooks and iBooks haven't dropped in price in Apple's Refurb store is for one simple reason, cost.
i would imagine the Intel chips and subsequent other components are readily available to Apple and i'm sure they get a nice bulk discount too. And since Apple aren't the only ones buying the chips, they aren't all the expensive. the G4 though... well Apple was the only real buyer of those chips and subsequent componets, and i would imagine they required a bit more R&D for the motherboard and all that goes along with it... so in turn Apple aren't slashing the prices to just get rid of them but rather are trying to milk them for as much as possible to maintain a balance of cost/profit.
does that make any sense at all?
