As far as I know, and I have used iBooks Author quite a bit over that last four weeks, the six default templates are the only ones available. ... until apple allows otherwise.

I don't know what you mean. There are links from many different sites. I did not check to see where each went to, I just did the search for you. Take it or leave it.

I just came across this site for iBooks Templates

Looks like they include an ISBN with purchased templates, but give away some for free here http://www.premiumibookstemplates.com/templates/category/Free

I downloaded the Cook Book template and am using it for some recipes.
