Thanks (though I'm late to the thread). The following command did indeed work for mine. It kept showing July 28 unless I opened it, then reverted back to July 28th when closed. Snow Leopard, try this command in Terminal:

Code:
killall "Dock"

This happens to me on occasion. This killall command always works.

Open up terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) and type this:
Code:
killall Dock

After you hit enter, the dock will disappear and reappear, and the correct date should show.

This just happened to me - this is by far the easiest solution of the ones posted here.

I just noticed this today, the second of december, that iCal is displaying DEC 1 on the dock when iCal is closed, but when i open iCal it changes to DEC 2.

I have no idea how to fix this. Any help would be appreciated.

Screenshot with iCal closed and one with it open:
Just upgraded to El Cap...iCal dock icon stuck on Oct 9. Still, and today is the 14th. Thought this was a new feature to remind me of when I did the upgrade....Sad funny but true.

I'm having the same problem on 10.8.5. It has come and gone several times over several years.

The Calendar icon shows July 17 (today is is August 29) in Launchpad and Dock. Removing it from Dock and dropping it back, whether from Launchpad or Application folder, onto the Dock didn't help.

Adjusting time preferences like it was suggested by someone before didn't help.

I ran "killall Dock" and at first it looked like it didn't help but then after some time (under 5 minutes) the icon was reset and it now shows the correct date. I'm sure I tried to run Calendar and close it. Maybe even removed it from Dock one more time but it never immediately updated the date. It took a short while for the icon to display a correct date when I wasn't doing anything actively.

Hope this helps!

Thank you!

10.8.5, and this started happening the other day, same steps as yours. Your note about it taking a few minutes was true here, too, and I thank you for that!

Interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience. Since I had made that post the problem reocurred again and I ended up killing the Dock process and after a while the number on the Calendar icon was updated to the actual date.

Look like a reproducible bug but I guess Apple wouldn't bother fixing it seeing how many OS versions it affects and they have been plain ignoring it for such a long time.
