I've tried to delete events and calendars and they just reappear 5 seconds later. This is so strange it's driving me crazy. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? TIA

Maybe you should try deleting the ".plist" file associated with iCal:

Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist

having same issue

It started after updating Snow Leopard. I've tried deleting by using the delete button and the edit menu, and I deleted the .plist file and restarted iCal. Still, events reappear a few seconds after I delete them.

It seems that it's a SL issue. I've heard of cases where running the same combo updater fixes some problems. ?

What is the "same combo updater"?

I have yet to update to SL, and after reading this thread (I rely heavily only my iCal syncing with three computers) and the speed issues some have had after upgrading to SL....I might put it off for a little while.

Does this seem to be a wide spread problem....others experience this issue?

Above, spacebetty noted this problem started after updating to 10.6.2

A "combo" updater will update across updates. In other words, if you have 10.6, the 10.6.2 combo updater will work. You don't have to use a 10.6.1 updater first.

That's the one. There shouldn't be any downside to running it. If you go for it, and it helps, let us know.

Time to report it to Apple. I think there's a way to do that online. Another option (for me) would be to go an Apple Store and talk to a Genius.

Possible solution to ical not deleting events and calendars

Yeah, I've been struggling with same issues for about month now... every time I delete an event or even entire calendar, its comes right back in about 10 seconds ... complete maddening. Also i get repeating reminders abou 10x day even though I say don't remind me till next day.

I tried all solutions posted everywhere, but no luck (deleting cache files etc.) but nothing worked. Finally discovered this solution on my own:

I just found a solution: Go into iSync, (use macintosh HD, applications), then go to Preferences. Turn off iSync (uncheck enable syncing on this computer). Then Reset Sync History (be sure to push Reset Sync History on second screen too). Then logoff/logon or reboot. Then you can delete calendar events or calendars or whatever you need. If you need to sync again, just go into iSync and re-enable syncing. The problem does not seem to come back. I tried all the other solutions posted and none worked except for this one.

i have same problem on new SL mac mini. tried everything. Can't uncheck disable iSync in iSync preferences, setting is grey!!
where are the "erased" calendars coming back from? I have erased all iCal prefs and caches and thet still reappear!!

MacManNM is the man!

finally after trying everything, this solution works.

simply turn off syncing...!

thx

Hi guys.

I found an easy solution to this.

Rather than trying to delete the calendars in the calendar app.

Go to settings> mail calendar contacts> subcribed calendars,

Select the calendar you wish to delete and delete it.

I've just done this and so far the unwanted calendars haven't returned.

This solution worked like magic for me. I don't understand why the issue suddenly appeared after years of using iCal but unchecking iSync enable worked. thank you!
