iCal needs black magic for normal people

I'm going nuts !

I am not receiving iCal invites

Having tried many options, I googled and got some information, tried that - but still nothing.

My setup is simple. I log into iCloud web-based and create an event and add an invite to a non-iCloud account.

I wait for the invite on my Mac Mail ... and nothing.

I have the special iCloud/iCal setting set to send invites rather than in-App.

What black-magic is required to get this basic feature to work ?

I mean work like normal people expect it to work, the invite is in the email.
