iCal shared calendars

I've upgraded to iCloud but need to be able to join a colleagues shared calendar who is still using the old iCal.
When I try to join the calendar I get this error message: The data downloaded from https://www.me.com/calendar/ isn’t valid

Is there anyway to subscribe or join an older version of the ical Calendar??
