I am using iChat (logged in with my google talk account), and trying to chat with some friends who are using google talk as well (on pc's). For some reason, when I click their names the video chat gray's out. Any idea why I cant video chat with them? Do they have to have a Mac? iChat? Thanks for your help.

I don't believe iChat can do video chat with Gtalk, no.

Correct, the video option is only for AIM accounts, or an actual iChat account.

Or everyone (including you) gets Skype -- I think that is better than AIM for video.

K, I just got AIM, but still am unable to use the video chat function (it is gray'd out). Perhaps I should go the skype route

Your friends (the pc users) need aim for this to work. You, however, can use either aim or ichat.

Or Skype. The program just has to support iSight.

I use skype myself for video chats, unless its a multi-user call then i switch to ichat since most of the time they are all mac users as well.

But for most video chats, I use skype.
