Can I use my Canon SD400 with iChat? It's not recognized via USB. Do I use the digital video I/O, and which mode, movie or still?

This is primarily a driver for dedicated web cams. I'm trying to use a Canon digital camera in conjunction with iChat. The device is recognized, but barely, so there are no preference options available.
