iChat/Chax annoying pop-ups

Hello,

Recently I've been noticing that on my buddy list, whenever someone signs off/goes idle, etc there would be these black pop-up boxes on the right of my screen, I was wondering how do I turn that off?

those are Growl notifications. go to System Preferences > Growl > Applications and double click on Chax and turn off notifications for the events you wish to.
