iChat - Getting it to work with messenger?

I have seen online that you can do it.. but all the instructions have been for the older versions...

My question is, is it easier to do now? and if it is, how do I do it?

Yahoo nor MSN Messenger will work with iChat. What you probably saw was someone using Jabber which you can google and look at different servers you can join.
