Could anyone please recommend a good USB webcam that is now compatible with iChat via the 10.4.9? I have had a very good experience with Logitech in the past with their other hardware (mice keyboards microphones) so i was leaning towards them for a reasonably priced web cam (under 50 dollars or so... any advice is welcome 😀

I'm glad someone asked this - I'm looking for the same thing for my mother, but I'm a little unsure what the requirements are for the new iChat-compatible USB cams.

anyone? I heard it needs to be UVC compliant but I am having a hard time finding models of cams that list that they are UVC compliant. I really wish apple would take this under their wing and give us a list of 3rd party cams that iChat works with becuase in Leopard 10.5 some of the cool features require a cam (photobooth and iChat backgrounds) 😕

According to KB article 304821 (under "iChat, iCal, and iSync"), iChat now supports "USB Video Class webcams". A Logitech sales rep should be able to tell you which of their models support the Video class.

I got this from Target for 20 dollars.

Not bad for 20. Need lots of light. But not too bad for 20.

The only issues are I had to download this driver.

http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/downloads.html

I use version 0.9.0.

Ichat doesn't see it for some reason. But Yahoo Messenger 3.0 beta a1r2.dmg does.

I just put the macman file it says to in my Library Quicktime folder as it says.

And Yahoo Messenger sees it.

Not sure if I'm going to keep it or return it.

Thanks,
ivnj
