Am I right to assume as soon as iCloud goes live tomorrow I can reinstate my old retired @me.com email address and finally move from gmail to apple mail? Any ideas out there?

Funny, I have been thinking about moving from @me.com to gmail.
I have had nothing but trouble sending email the past 2 days! I assume its due to the iCloud update.

If your trying to avoid problems I would not go to GMAIL. that's like saying I wanna keep healthy and then going to the nearest hospital and licking bacteria right off the waiting room chairs. Course, if all you have is email with Thunderbird it's not too bad...but I have the following problems with Gmails.
1. you have to pay for push notifications from gmail(or you did, maybe not anymore, i should check)
2. You can't really tell when your calendars and contacts are gonna sync. I tried forcing syncs and it never worked.

I was told last night during an express lane chat with Apple, that I can use my expired @me.com email address to register on icloud, but I can never receive email at that address again. That seems bizarre. I don't understand why you would make all those addresses inactive. He basically told me to sign up on icloud using the Apple ID that I make purchases with and then set up a new @me.com email address. I tried to get him to explain the rationale behind that policy, and he simply said that is how it is working, do I need anything else...

I had my @me.com account for eight years and then I didn't renew because I didn't want to pay $99 for Mobile Me when I could have icloud in a couple months. Now that email address can never be used again. Why can't I use that email address again? That is lame!

I knew it seemed ridiculous for them to not allow us to reactivate canceled me.com email addresses. I talked to another rep this morning and he said that we will be able to once we have ios5 and 10.7.2.

Yes, you will receive mail from there and all the features. All you have to do is go to www.me.com/move but we will have to wait until the official release time for iCloud today.

I didn't understand why you would want to just eliminate all those addresses. I was afraid I was going to end up with j45683201sed@me.com or something.
