What sort of mechanism has Apple put in place for syncing and backing up Microsoft office files as well as pdf files and other kinds that are not from iWork? How would one back those up with iCloud?

Nobody knows yet.

Nobody knows what? There is a published iCloud API, which is available to any registered Apple developer. 3rd party apps will be able to take advantage of iCloud publish/push capabilities when IOS5 goes live this fall.

Essentially, non iWork files can be synced to the iCloud in the same fashion as iWork documents, but it will require 3rd party app support.

Thank you for the reply! So in short, it's up to MS to add the iCloud API to their office suite for Mac in an update, am I right?

You are right!

And it's this type of cloak and dagger approach Apple is taking that is proof positive of their complete arrogance and disregard for the customer.

Only because they can get away with it, do they pull stunts like this.

To those of us who have been with Apple a long time, the contrast between the great guys they were, and the sheer greedy ******* they are today, is both striking and maddening.

Sooner or later, the way they treat the customer will return to haunt them.

Make no mistake, nothing lasts forever.

Are you done trolling? There is no "cloak and dagger approach" here - iCloud capabilities and API's are published and available to developers, as i stated above.
