I am looking to sell my MacBook Pro since I never use other than to back up my iphone x. I was trying to back up to the cloud but when I click back up photos it’s telling me that I will lose them. How do i do this correctly?

Is download Originals to this Mac selected?

Be sure you have multiple good backups before you do anything. You don't want to lose your photos!

That will remove the photos you have synced from your Mac to your iPhone via iTunes.
Are all your pictures on the Mac in the Photos app or are they stored in folders in Finder?
