I have a iPhone XS and will be getting a 12 pro. What is the preferred way of transferring data to the new phone ? I do pay for additional storage so that’s not a issue. One other question. Does the new phone have to be activated before I do the transfer?

Thanks in advance.

I backed up my iPhone 7 to iCloud just before unboxing the 12, then during set up I selected to load up my backup from iCloud. All went quickly and smoothly over WiFi.

I did iPhone to iPhone transfer over wifi for the first time. From iPhone X to iPhone 12 Pro. Worked great, but took 3 hours. It also transferred my Series 3 SS watch over without having to unpair and repair. I was also able to convert my AT&T physical SIM to an eSIM without having a QR code or calling AT&T

I did an iPhone to iPhone transfer from a 11 Pro to the 12 Pro. It took quite a while—about 45 minutes to an hour but everything was identical when it was finished except my 2 factor app which I needed to reconnect manually to every server that was using it. Luckily the old iPhone 2 factor settings still worked as I was able to log in to each server and reconnect with a QR code but it was a bit nerve-wracking.

Aside from the two factor authorization, that was pretty easy to do?

I did phone to phone for the first time. Transferred 80+GB in about 45 minutes from my old 8 to new 12. Easy peasy and will always do so in the future.

It shows you how much time it will approximately take.
And since the iCloud restore was much master, i took that one.
