iCloud backup with an aftermarket dock

I just noticed something interesting about the automatic iCloud backup process. I use an aftermarket dock to charge of my iPhone and iCloud doesn't automatically backup the iPhone even though it's charging and on wifi. I use the regular charger for my iPad 2 and it does backup when it's plugged in and on wifi. Seems like you need to use the oem charger to get the backups.
