Have my new 11 Pro Max. Attempting to get it backed up manually to iCloud, but it won’t ever complete the process. If I stop the backup it shows as successful, but when I attempt to restore my Apple Watch from a backup, there is no current watch backup to choose from.

Ideas?

Reset network didn’t work for me but is easy and worth a try.

FYI, There is another thread, “iCloud backup taking forever” where several have reported same problem (iCloud backup never completes, hanging on “updating iCloud”). Several also reporting same on Apple’s forum as well. For all, issue started when upgraded to iOS 13. No solution yet reported.

Thanks, all. Unfortunately rest network and reset settings didn’t do anything. Oddly enough, if I let it go and eventually hit ‘cancel backup’, it ends up showing there was a successful backup. Not sure I’d want to trust it thought.

When it gets to the end, even if it says 1 minute remaining, hit back to go to the main iCloud settings page and then go back into backups. Does it show as done now?

Yes, whether go to previous page, or cancel. Don’t trust though. My backup size is 1/4 what it was pre ios 13. Difference is size of all photos.

I was unable to backup my old phone using all available methods or restore to my new one. Worried about losing my health and activity data. Bitting the bullet did a clean install. Turns out activity data is backed up when you unpair your watch. Health data was refreshed from the providers or some kind of an iCloud backup (?).

So after spending over a day trying to do backup/restores I did a fresh install and had amost everything installed in an hour or so. Did a major clean up at the same time.

Also happens to me in ios 13 or ipad os 13. It says updating icloud but if i go back and then into backup it shows the hour of backup. Even in itunes time changes.

It is maybe a bug but i think backup is done.

IOS 13.1.1:

Fixes issues that could prevent iPhone restoring from backup

Posted on the IOS13 section

”Just to add that I backed up my iPhone to my MacBook and while I had iTunes running, I did a WiFi backup to iCloud. I saw the iCloud backup get marked as complete on the ITunes screen but still showing as “updating” on the phone. A backout of the phone screen and then a recheck on the backup screen on the phone showed that it had completed at the same time as reported by iTunes”

As a test, I have also restored from the iCloud backup that was showing “updating” and it was fine. Still happens in 13.1.1
