First off, hello ladies & gents!

Anyone know of a solution to stop iCloud draining my battery?! My hair is slowly being pulled out...

iPhone 7+

Ever since I did an update to a newer software version a couple of weeks back my phone started getting hot when not in use, my battery sucked away like crazy. I knew it was a software glitch as the processor is clearly running (getting hot when not even in use) and something is going on behind the scenes. Phone was previously perfect, did the update and the next day it was messed up.

I tried all the usual things wiped phone etc but it seems related to my iTunes/iCloud account in my opinion.

Was like pulling teeth at first speaking to Apple “we’ll run a battery check, how is your screen brightness” grrrrr!

I’ve discovered myself it’s something to do with iCloud stuck trying to upload something (bare in mind I don’t use iCloud) but I discovered this when I tried erasing my phone and it comes up with a warning message saying “documents and data are being uploaded to iCloud if you erase now you will lose”. This message is displayed every time, even on a freshly wiped phone but using my iTunes account.

This has been going on a couple of weeks and it’s getting to the point I’m worried my phone is physically going to be ruined soon.

The battery will drain away from coming off charge in the morning it’ll need charge at 2pm even without any use! It gets hot in my pocket as I’m working and it’s also seemed to have ruined 3 charging cables which I’ve only just noticed. I thought it was odd I needed a new cable as I’m always careful with them (unlike my kids) but every cable of the 3 would stop working when inserted one way and now all have a black (looks like burnt) mark over the same pin and looks like where it’s charging and having it’s hissy fit it’s actually burning out the track on the charging input! When it’s ‘doing it’s thing’ and charging at the same time it gets very hot and it takes forever to charge.

I Have continued Apple support but it’s going on and on and don’t seem to be getting far. Currently sent off more logs now but I’ve now got to wait another 5 day’s to get a call back!

I don’t understand why a software engineer can’t look at the analytics and see the error codes, go to iCloud and stop whatever is causing this stuck upload! Current chap is nice enough but I’ve been speaking to him a week every couple of days and it’s getting a shade annoying.

I can’t even seem to log out of my account on my phone either! You press sign out and it says “deleting iCloud data” and then just flips back to the settings screen with my iTunes username sat there like I’m still logged in. If you then come out of settings it shows the red 1 and when going back on it is asking to sign in to confirm details. Yet when I click on iCloud it’s all as if I’m logged in.

My feeling is I’m going to have to lose everything as my backup is associated to my iTunes account & start again. This would be a bit of a disaster as far as all my years of iPhone usage goes (notes, emails, messages etc etc)

Anyone come across this before?

Since you state that the problem is iCloud, let's start by asking, what uses do you have for iCloud? Contacts, Mail, Other?

Also, do you have screenshots of the iPhone OS generated Battery Usage stats?

Has to be a hardware problem if it is burning up cables and the lightning connector! Forget your software problems, you need a new phone. Take it to Apple and point this out.

I don’t have anything sync’d to iCloud, The odd thing is I’ve just gone on there and game centre is on and this has turned itself on a few times. I don’t have any other devices either.

Since the issue started I’ve tried turning all the apps on to sync (at the request of the Apple employee) to see if this kick starts what’s stuck.

Currently everything is off (except as I say when I’ve just checked and game centre has turned itself on again)

I don’t think it’s a hardware issue at all. Otherwise I wouldn’t be getting this constant “documents are uploading to iCloud” if I try and erase the phone.

I agree. One burnt cable and I'd be at apple. You've had 3!

I’ve been through all the checks with Apple telling me it’s not hardware.

The phone was perfect, charging once a day (using it rarely during the day and a lot in the evening) I did the update and it was like a switch where the phone was working away.

Also I have this issue with iCloud ‘documents and data’ constantly trying to upload and I can’t properly sign out on my phone.

Since you don’t use iCloud, try erasing the phone and don’t sign in to iCloud and see if it resolves it. This will confirm it’s an issue with iCloud. I’d also suggest restoring it instead of just erasing it.

I have currently the same problem. When I'm logged in with my iCloud account, my battery drains. When I am in airplane mode or if I logged off, the issue disappears. I have tried to disable all features of iCloud without logging off and it seems to have a positive effect. Don't know what....

So I've decided to create a completely new Apple ID..... Strong decision because I've lost some datas and many hours to configure again.

Do you know if Homekit uses lots of battery ?
