iCloud Drive and photos

I am wondering if once I can start using iCloud drive if I can upload all my photos to it and use that as another cloud backup for them? I am willing to pay for enough space.... So that isn't the issue... I am just wondering if it will be able to be used in that way. I also have a copy if everything on smug mug and have a hard drive back up of my computer.

you can upload all your photos to icloud drive using windows, osx yosemite or icloud.com... apple said there will be a new photo app in the coming months.

you can't access icloud drive via ios8 yet except for enabling it.
